This week, you'll start reading Hiroshima. Remember, that on the
second day of school, you'll have a test on the book, so you want to
make sure that you're reading AND understanding it. This week you'll
read pages 1-30. On the appropriate blog post, you'll answer the
following questions:
1. List every major character who you've read about in the first 30
pages. For each character, write a one sentence summary of who they are
and the most important event that has happened so far to the character.
2. After reading the first 30 pages, how does Hersey (the author) use foreshadowing to build suspense?

ReplyDelete1.Father Wilhem Kleinsorge- A german priest of the society of jesus. He was weakened a few days by his bad case of diarrhea, but he still managed to help others who were badley injured
2.Dr. Terufumi Sasaki- A young member of the surgical staff of the city's large modern red cross hospital. He was the only one not injured, so he helped the people who were badly injured.
3.Reverend Tanimoto- Pastor of the Hiroshima Methodist Church. He had been safely smushed within the falling house by the bedding stored in the front hall and had worked his way out.
4.Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura- A tailor's widow. she and her children were burried under the fallen house after the bomb hit. she saved herslef and her three children.
5.Dr. Masakazu Fujii- His hospital had been hit and went into the river, he got stuck and ws unable to move he had lost feeling in his left shoulder so he managed to painfully wriggle out with the right side of his body before the water submerged his head

Hersey, the author uses foreshadowing to build suspense by making the characters speak as if they don't know exactly what is going to happen, but they try to get prepared for want they think is coming.

What has happened in the story so far is that the people of Hiroshima is expecting an atomic bomb from the americans, and they try to be as prepared as possible to move away from the desinated area where the bomb is supposed to hit.

Hersey used foreshawdoing to add suspense by making the air raid sysytem go off not long before the A- bomb fell.

As tension and anxioties build up a flash erupted over Hiroshima that destroyed and killed many, but 6 lucky souls who feel it is their responsibility to help others.

John Hersey, the author of Hiroshima, uses foreshadowing to build suspense by letting us know what all six main characters are doing before the bomb hits Hiroshima.

Miss Sasaki – a clerk in the personnel department of the East Asia Tin works. She was crushed by books that fell in the Tin works when the bombing occurred. After hours have passed her leg turned black, she was falling in and out of consciousness, still waiting for help.
Dr. Sasaki – young member off Red Cross. The only person that was un- bruised after the bombing. So far he’s trying to aid everyone who needs help.
Mrs. Makamura – a tailor’s widow. She lost her children after the bomb hit but, eventually found them with no cuts or scratches.
Dr. Fujii - owns his own private hospital. After the bombing he found himself stuck on two long timbers in a V across his chest. Until, finally, he was helped down.
Mr. Tanimoto – a pastor of Hiroshima Methodist church. After the bombing he went to go search for his wife and infant. Then, finally found her.
Father Kleinsorge – a German priest. After the bombing he went to go to a safe place but, along the way he was saving lives.

The way the author used foreshadowing to build suspense was by repeating the wait for the “all-clear sounding. “Every time that was mentioned something happened.

His hospital is completely destroyed in the blast and he is injured, but he soon recovers both his health and fortune and continues to live his life.
Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura : A tailor’s widow with three young children, whose husband has died in the war. She suffers mild radiation sickness for most of her life, which makes it very difficult for her to support her children, but four decades after the bomb was dropped, she is an active citizen whose children have grown and found happiness
Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge : A thirty-eight year-old German missionary priest with the Society of Jesus, He incurs only small cuts from the atomic bomb.
Dr. Terufumi Sasaki : A young surgeon working at the Hiroshima Red Cross Hospital. He is the only uninjured doctor from the bomb, and in the chaotic aftermath, he treats thousands of victims from all over the city for three days straight with no sleep
Reverend Kiyoshi Tanimoto : A hard-working and thoughtful pastor , He didn’t get injured by the atomic bomb attack, and spends the first several days afterward compassionately caring for the wounded and destitute of the city .

Hersey used foreshadowing to build suspension to let the readers know what the six main characthers were doing just before the bomb was dropped.
There are six survivors who survived the bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima. These six survivors are sharing there story about the experience of the bombing.

The author John Hersey uses foreshadowing in the book to tell how many people died during and after the atomic bomb was dropped but it hasn't happened yet in the book.
So far in the book the atomic bomb hit Hiroshima and the survivors are trying to achieve stability and recover from the atomic bomb.
1. Mrs.Nakamura a soldier widow and sowing tailor house is destroyed and is under rubble as well as her children but is able to save them.
ReplyDelete2. Dr.Fuji a well prosperous doctor living comfortably, with an hospital with advanced technology was destroyed right infont of his eyes wher he laid trapped under two logs.
3. Father Kleinsorge and his mission chapel still stood strong during the bombing raid while other structures around him had fallen.
4. Dr.Sasaki a red cross surgeon is the only surviving doctor in the hospital while a horrific display of terror, blood, fear and hopelesness is around him.
5.Miss Sasaki a young girl with many responsibilities for her family and job was at work when the bomb had hit her and her building was damages where a bookcase is what caused her injury.
6. Rev.Tanimoto finds and saves some lives yet his own family and parishioners are gone and hope seems lost.
Question 2.
Mr.Hersey uses foreshadowing in the story by first telling the events of the bombing before the people lives where impacted and when the bombs had hit them showing a just picture of what there lives will look like or depict in the future. These events will further the audience curiosity to find out what happens to these indivisuals later on in the text and how will they live their lives and how will Japan recover from this devastating ordeal.
Question 3.
Everday lives of people will be forever changed by the great atomic bomb and this will be in history.

-Mrs.Nakamura, a mother and a tailor’s widow, had supported herself by picking up her late husband’s trade; when the bomb went off she was watching her neighbor tire down his house to make way for a fire lane, she was thrown through the house and buried under some rubble.
-Dr.Masakazu ran a small hospital with only two patients; when the bomb went off he was reading on his porch facing the river, he was then thrown into the river and stuck with just his head above water.
-Father Kleinsorge was a frail looking forty eight year old German priest; when the bomb went off he was knocked unconscious and found himself wandering in the missions garden.
-Dr.Terufumi was a surgeon who worked at the Red Cross hospital; when the bomb went off he ducked in the hospital corridor with thing crashing around him, he then started to help the wounded.
-Miss Sasaki was a clerk who worked at the East Asia Tin Works; when the bomb went off everything around her fell and she lost consciousness.
2) The author uses foreshadowing to cause suspense by showing how all the characters are getting ready for an attack, but they don’t know what’s coming.
3) So far, the city has been preparing for a bombing raid and does not expect the power of a nuclear bomb, after it was dropped they are now in the process of fixing the destruction it caused.
Troshiko Sasaki- a clerkin the personnel department of the east Asia tin works. She was buried under books and lots of debris and was unconscious for around three hours before someone came to save her.
ReplyDeleteDr.Masakaszu Fujii- a private doctor in Hiroshima. His hospital was destroyed in the explosion and many people were harmed or either died, even though things were bad he still managed to start helping people around him who was harmed.
Mrs.Hatsuyu Nakamura- a tailors widow. She and her three little children had just gotten back from one of the safe center when the explosion happened she and her children was sleep and was thrown into a wall but not really badly hurt.
Father Wilheim Kleinsorge- a German priest of the society of Jesus. He was not harmed as badly as others by the explosion and was trying to help as many peoples he could, like his friend Mr.Fufai who did not want to leave his burning house and wanted to die. He had dropped Mr. Fufai who ran back towards the fire because he was so weak from a bad case of diarrhea.
Dr.Teruyuki Sasaki- a younger member of the surgical staff of the red cross hospital. He started to become over whelmed with all the wounded and people around him and stopped working as a doctor but as a robot, doing the same thing repeatedly.
Reverend Mr.Kiyoshi Tanimoto- a pastor of the Hiroshima Methodist church. He was unharmed by the explosion and was trying to help as many people as he could and he found his wife and infant daughter who he later found out had died.
2) The author uses foreshadowing in the story by showing everything people was doing before explosion and showing how they was trying to prepare.
3) In the first 30 pages of Hiroshima the author is telling everyone story and howling how the explosion, not everyone survived from it and died. The only one who did not die lived to tell their story but many still suffer from the radiation.
